I'm sharing my insulin and sugar posts again because they are so, so important and could, in all honesty, save your life or the life of a loved one.

Here's what you need to know: 
  1. Insulin resistance is extremely common and is the primary cause of heart disease. The whole cholesterol thing was a distraction. Please read the brilliant article: "The cholesterol and calorie hypotheses are both dead — it is time to focus on the real culprit: insulin resistance". 
  2. Insulin resistance causes many other problems including PCOS, progesterone deficiency, heavy periods, and osteoporosis. 
  3. You could very well have insulin resistance and not know it because doctors don't test for it. A test for blood sugar is NOT a test for insulin resistance. (Please read my insulin post below.)
  4. The best way to reverse insulin resistance is to dramatically reduce fructose. That means stopping all dessert-type foods especially "breakfast desserts." Why I Ask Some Patients to Quit Sugar (and What I Mean By Sugar)

If you have normal insulin sensitivity and enjoy fresh fruit and the occasional dessert, then please keep doing what you’re doing. You don’t need this post.
